Wolfs Bar-B-Q was established at its present location in 1925 by Nicholas C. Wolf. Wolfs originally was a wholesale meat distributor specializing in Bar-B-Q. During the early years, Wolfs primary customers were grocery stores and taverns located in Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois. After many years of success in meat distribution, canning and packing, Wolfs First Avenue location was struck by fire in April of 1946. The entire facility and its contents were destroyed. Nicholas Wolf, II and Charles Wolf, sons of Nicholas Wolf, Sr., the original founder, rebuilt the operation and were in full swing within six months. In 1952, the two sons built and began to operate the first Wolfs Bar-B-Q Restaurant. The new sixty-seat restaurant had curb service, one of the first drive-up windows in Indiana, and was staffed by only seven employees. In 1966, additional dining space for 65 people was added along with extensive remodeling. In 1967, Charles Wolf died tragically in a boating accident. Nicholas Wolf, II continued Wolfs success with hard work and long hours as the sole owner and operator. In 1978, expansion construction began at the Wolfs First Avenue location, and on November 27, 1979, Nicholas Wolf, II opened the doors to what was his dream come true. With seating for 360 people, a private party room for 100, a special Carryout area and complete Bar-B-Q catering and wholesale operations, Wolfs became synonymous with Bar-B-Q. Although Wolfs specialized in Bar-B-Q, many other extremely successful items have been added to the menu over the years. Wolfs catering service is capable of serving from 1 to 10,000 persons and can create any type of meal for any occasion. With brother and sister team Terry Wolf and Kim Wolf involved in everyday operations, Wolfs continues its success as a local family-owned and operated restaurant.
