Detailed Information

Thai Kitchen is Austins Oldest Thai Restaurant. The roots of Thai Kitchen begins in the early 80s when not many Austinites were familiar with what Thai food actually was. Sintop Toy Seneewongs proudly encouraged everyone to try Thai cuisine and taught many Austinites how to eat Thai food properly. With the support of his family, in 1982, Sintop Toy Seneewongs opened his first Thai restaurant in South Austin around William Cannon and I-35. After many years of cooking and teaching Austinites about Thai Cuisine, Toys business and popularity grew. During the early 90s to late 2000s, Thai Kitchen had 3 open restaurants in the Austin area spanning from Bee Caves road in Westlake Hills to North Campus off Guadalupe and 30th street. Over the years, a number of local celebrities have visited Thai Kitchen to dine with Toy. Celebrities like Earl Campbell, Willie Nelson, Michael Dell, and Jimmy Vaughn have enjoyed meals at the restaurant. After a battle with cancer, Toy passed away, but his son Chanan runs and operates the restaurant and the family business continues to operate as if Toy was still alive. Today, only the Guadalupe location remains but Toys legacy has lived on. Thai Kitchen has proudly fed generations of families, UT alumni, staff and students and the restaurant continues to provide the best and most authentic Thai food in Austin. © 2019 Thai Kitchen of Austin.
