Detailed Information

Spondivits was created by Atlanta native Andy Camp, who was born in Hapeville, with a nautical theme that reminded him of deep sea fishing trips with his parents followed by dinner in casual restaurants with good food and drinks. He determined to recreate that theme in his restaurants and he has in both the original at 1219 Virginia Avenue, his second location near Lake Lanier at Exit 14 off Georgia 400 in Cumming. Asked how he got started in the restaurant business, Camp said it was his friend Burt Reynolds. Camp helped actor Reynolds open a restaurant named Burts Place at CNN Center decades go. That movie-themed restaurant lasted only one year, but planted the restaurant bug in Camp like hooking a big one while fishing. The chef and general manager of the restaurant is Glen Gagne, a descendant of six generations of New England cooks, who has worked for Spondivits for more than a dozen years. At the present, Spondivits in Atlanta opens at 11a.m. and closes at 4 a.m. They stop serving food at 2:45 a.m., but Camp is quick to point out it is the only place he knows of in Atlanta where can get a full-course seafood dinner at 2:45am. So what is a SPONDIVITS? Nobody knows really, says Camp. Weve even had contests to tell us what our customers think Spondivits is, but we have yet to define it. Apparently it is a place that has created a legendary following in Atlanta based on good food-with a specialty on seafood-two-ounce drinks and a personality.
