The name Shannon is the first name of owner Shannon Patterson. The Five Star part is a bit more interesting. At the time the restaurant opened, owners Shannon and Steve Patterson were already operating their first restaurant in Downtown Bloomington, Shannons Federal Cafe and since the new restaurant was situated on what was once the Five Star Truck Stop on Old Route 66, hoping to alleviate confusion of the 2 locations, it seemed only obvious to tack on the Five Star with Shannons.
