Ruvo is owned and operated by four brothers of the De Nicola family. The De Nicola family settled on Long Island in 1915. The family has a long tradition and history in the preparation of the finest Italian fare created with the freshest ingredients. Ruvo takes itsname from a small hill town in Southern Italy that was the ancestral home to part of the De Nicolas extended family. On a trip to Italy in 1972, James De Nicola Sr., an artist who worked on Long Island his entire career was inspired to create a series of woodcut prints of Ruvo. The Ruvo prints evoke the color, warmth and vitality of their regional inspiration. A reproduction adorns the cover of this menu and these original prints hang in the restaurant, as well as other original work by James Sr. Owners Jim, Leo, Douglas and Joe are proud of their fathers artistic accomplishments and their familys long history in the preparation of the finest Italian fare. The two dining rooms and the handsome wood bar were designed and made by the brothers using wood that they brought in from their uncles old barn in upstate New York. Soft candlelight and live greenery complete the casual rooms, that have a sophisticated ambiance with a touch of Italian country. Ruvos Country Italian cuisine is as uncomplicated as its owners are complex. Jim is currently the COO and Joe is the Executive Chef, for both Restaurants. Douglas presently works as Director of retail operations at Noguchi Museum in Long Island City and Leo is currently consultant for both restaurants as well as Chief Steward on Time Warners private airline.
