Ive been coming here my whole life, since I was tiny and my grandmother dragged me up through the Mission so she could cook. Puerto Alegre, now run by the next generation has not lost its authenticity in food nor ambiance. In fact, I would dare say theyve polished the authenticity. The food remains amazing and true to Mexico. They currently invite local Latino artist to display art (for sale) throughout the restaurant walls, and well then there is the drinks…..another story. Great collection of tequilas and kick-ass, award-winning margaritas. What a fun place. Puerto Alegra serves mexican comfort food. Its not fancy or modern, its just tasty. The staff were so friendly to us from beginning to end. Chatty, attentive, kind, smiles. They really set the tone for a good time. Nice place on Valencia St. Very good service and great fresh Mexican food. Sunday Brunch is so good. Will be back again.
