In 1990, the store moved to the current location as Suruki Supermarket to expand the operation. Shuji Suruki 65, passed away peacefully on February 5th, 2017 at the hospital surrounded by his loved ones. He was the husband of Ryuko, and they shared 40 years of marriage together. Born in Kagoshima, Japan, he was the son of Tokinori and Kie Suruki. He was the proud owner of his own business, Suruki Super Market, which he and his wife first opened in Burlingame in 1980, and later moved to Downtown San Mateo in 1990. He is survived by his wife Ryuko, his three children, Charlene, James and Alex, and three grandchildren, Caitlyn, Chloe, and Darien.
