Nestled in the Russian Hill neighborhood of San Francisco, Nisei is the debut restaurant of Chef David Yoshimura, the former Chef de Cuisine at Michelin-starred Californios. Nisei is a testament to Chef David Yoshimuras Japanese-American heritage, the tasting menuwill be based on California Washoku cuisine, which means harmony of food, also referred to as the home cooking of Japan. The philosophy of Washoku focuses on a set of principles emphasizing balance of color, taste preparations, sense, and respect to food. The elevated California-influenced Washoku experience will also feature a variety of beverages carefully curated from around the world to enjoy with your meal. We look forward to serving you. Nisei began as a pop-up restaurant in 2019, hosting a 10-course tasting menu around the Bay Area for two years. Pop-ups included collaborations with other rising and prominent chefs in the greater bay area in various locations around San Francisco. Throughout 2020, Nisei partnered with Mister Jius, selling elevated bento boxes and providing charity lunches to the senior community through the Japantown Community Center in San Francisco..
