Michael Rippey is an oil painter with studios in Holland, Michigan, and Fernandina Beach, Florida. He began painting seriously in 2013, after retiring from a 37-year career in the golf industry. His companies developed, operated and/or provided consulting servicesto more than 300 golf clubs throughout the U.S. and in several other countries. Michael painted occasionally throughout his business career, but since 2013, oil painting has been his major focus. His style has evolved primarily through self-study and experimentation, and he also has benefitted from study with accomplished artists like James Brandess, Dawn Stafford and Jerry Fresia. Representative of Michaels typical subject matter and his evolving painting style, are the two paintings shown to the right below: Fresh Snow, Indiana Dunes highlights the dramatic Lake Michigan dunes in in the area where Michael paints in the summer months. This painting, now in a private collection, was selected for the 2021 Annual Exhibition of the Hoosier Salon, at the Indiana State Museum in Indianapolis. Amelia Sunrise, is representative of the scenes Michael paints in and around Fernandina Beach, Florida, where he and his wife, Durenda, spend the winter months. Michael is represented in Michigan by The Galleria, an innovative combination of working artists studios and gallery exhibit space, located at 447 Washington St., in Holland, Michigan.
