From humble beginnings as a convenience store nearly 20 years ago to opening two full-service dining establishments now located along the I-40 corridor in Amarillo, Texas, El Tejavan is celebrated as the Panhandles destination for true Mexican cuisine! It all began when Jose and Patricia Murguia started selling tacos and tortas for extra money from the store they owned on Grand Street. From there, they added a front porch, opened the restaurant, and aptly named it El Tejavan, which happens to be Spanish for front porch! Ever since, the Murguias and their extended family have been preparing homemade family recipes indigenous to their native city of Guadalajara to local patrons and those passing through – all of whom have an appreciation for authenticity. When El Tejavan opened their second location in 2002 at 3420 W. Interstate 40, the front porch look was embraced for the bar area. And while both locations offer a family-friendly atmosphere, the one thing you will not find at either location is TexMex. Instead, youll discover the bold taste of Mexico in a warm, inviting atmosphere where emphasis is placed on providing the absolute best Mexican cuisine and a dedication to prompt customer service.
