Detailed Information

Double D Meat Company was founded in 1967 by T.S. Dutch Stogner, Sr. Dutch, as most people knew him, always dreamed of owning his own butcher shop. So in 1967, he moved his wife, Carrie, and family from the big city of New Orleans to the small community of Sun,Louisiana and began custom processing for local farmers. The old-fashioned sugar-cured hams and bacon became very popular and the business grew. Smoked sausage started off as a by-product from butchering hogs, but quickly became very popular as well. Within a few years, word of Double D Sausage spread and people all over the state of Louisiana began asking for it. Over time, the business expanded and moved to a new location a few miles north to the present location on Highway 21 just south of Bogalusa. The operation moved under Federal Inspection in 1987, which allowed product to be shipped across state lines and production expanded rapidly. The untimely passing of Dutch in 1983 moved the company into the second generation of ownership under Tillman and Mike Stogner, keeping the business in the family. The decades of the 80s and 90s saw steady growth and expansion of the facility and distribution of their now famous Double D Smoked Sausage into markets as far away as Chicago and Los Angeles. As the 21st Century began, Double D was blessed to see continued steady growth and market expansion including two expansions of the plant into the current 35,000 square foot facility. While the business has grown to 18,000 lbs. of product daily, the Stogner familys commitment to product quality and exceptional customer service has never changed. Double D still produces the original sugar cured hams and bacon for local farmers as well as custom processing of deer, hogs and beef cattle. As the company moves into the third generation of family management, it is poised for continued success and product expansion to meet the changing tastes and preferences of todays modern consumers while staying true to origin
