BGs Café has been serving Oxnards downtown community since 1971. Originally opened by Bill and Gloria Stuart, they retired in 2004 and sold to Jose and Veronica Rodriguez. Although the menu has grown, as well as services such as catering, BGs continues in the tradition of the favorite downtown hangout serving regular customers since 1971. Many of the same staff remain with years of serving BGs loyal patrons. In 2009, BGs was awarded Downtown Business of the Year by the Oxnard Chamber of Commerce. BGs has also won recognition for their salsas, earning the Professional Division Award from the Salsa Festival each year since 2007. Both the House Red Salsa, made with roasted tomatoes and garlic, as well as the Green Salsa, made with roasted tomatillos, has received recognition. Community events are important to BGs. This is why they are proud to support local events and charities. Fundraisers are held on the premises in the form of dinners for a variety of causes ranging from t}te Tarahumara Menudo Breakfasts to Soccer League Spaghetti Dinners. A special emphasis is placed in bettering the downtown community via representation on the Oxnard Downtown Management District and other committees throughout the year. Today, the same attention to quality and detail is emphasized in food choices and a commitment to excellence. A continued spirit of innovation will continue to guide efforts in carrying on as the favorite downtown hangout for many more years to come.
