Since 1953, we have been a rich part of Simpsonvilles cultural history. The business was created in 1953 when the stores creator, L.J. Vaughn, Jr., told his father, Lawrence Sr. that in addition to working at his fathers cotton gin, he had decided to open his own feed and seed store. Through the years his wife, Ida, and their four children, Ann, Larry, Betsy, and Lee, worked at the store at different times. When L.J. unexpectedly passed away in 1986, Ida and her oldest daughter, Ann, continued running the business together. Over the years, the store has grown and changed to sell a variety of products including coal, fuel oil, and antiques. Today Country Store at Vaughns continues to offer a wide selection of products including animal feed, grass seed, bedding plants, organic food products, and gifts. The store is a rich part of Simpsonvilles cultural history and contains some unique characteristics that have withstood the test of time, including a large collection of Case Knives, an old-timey seed counter where seeds are still weighed by the ounce or pound and a working 1950s antiques Coco-Cola machine that sells the best Coke in town.
