The South Carolina Primary Health Care Association (SCPHCA) is happy to present CareSouth Carolina, Inc. the 2012 Community Health Care LeadershipAward. The award honors an outstanding organization that honors the Community Health Center movement and its principles by demonstrating a commitment to the states medically underserved population through outstanding advocacy efforts. CareSouth Carolina has a positive and direct impact on low-income, uninsured and underinsured individuals and their families, and others experiencing barriers to accessing health care. CareSouth Carolina is active in all SCPHCA grassroots activities and makes advocacy an organizational priority and commitment. The award was presented at the SCPHCA 7th Annual State Policy and Issues Forum held in Columbia, SC on February 7th, 2012. CareSouth Carolina, Inc. is a private, non-profit community health center delivering patient-centered health care services to over 36,000 people in the Pee Dee region of South Carolina. CareSouth Carolina was established in 1980 as a small Community Health Center with 4 employees in Society Hill, SC. It has grown into a regional health and community care system headquartered in Hartsville with 10 primary care sites, over 300 employees and recognized as a national model of success in the delivery of health and community services. The SCPHCA is the membership organization that represents all of South Carolinas Community Health Centers, which are an integral part of the primary health care system in our state. In 2010, the 19 community health centers and the statewide migrant health voucher program provided affordable, community-based, and coordinated preventive and primary health care services to over 312,000 patients statewide. Community Health Centers provide high quality primary health and dental care to all patients while reducing inappropriate Emergency Room usage, overall health care costs, racial and ethnic health disparities, and other barriers to care.Read
