Breaking Bread Café

Breaking Bread is creating new jobs, training local residents and giving confidence to other entrepreneurs who will become inspired to bring new business to North Minneapolis. This socially conscious mission is why countless community members Northside organizations are committed to Breaking Bread Cafe & Caterings success. Breaking Bread and our sister enterprise Kindred Kitchen are programs of our parent organization, Appetite For Change (AFC), a community-based nonprofit, as well as a social enterprise, whose mission it is to use food as a tool to build health, wealth and social change. We are supporting the new era of economic development on West Broadway Avenue. We are proud members of the West Broadway Business and Area Coalition as well as the Northside Fresh Coalition. Appetite For Change envisions sustainable, local food systems, created and led by thriving, socially connected families and communities. Appetite For Change, as the founder of Breaking Bread Café & Catering, is building a youth-led food justice movement. The social problem that we seek to address with our projects in North Minneapolis is lack of real-food access, jobs, and opportunities for teens to engage in community-development. The North Minneapolis community is over-saturated by fast food and corner store options. The accompanying jobs deficit that goes along with the absence of a sustainable and community-owned food system makes meaningful youth engagement difficult.
