Detailed Information

The veteran training program at Fiddlehead – FERN or Fiddlehead Employment Response Network – is a growing network Fiddlehead has established with area businesses to promote individualized training, advancement and long-term employment for service men and women. The assistant manager position at Fiddlehead will only be available to veterans and will be a yearlong apprenticeship alongside owner Aaron OReilly. We will find veterans interested in the restaurant business through both the Wounded Warrior project and Folds of Honor organization, explains OReilly. We hope that local vets contact us if they are interested in any of our restaurant positions. OReillys passion to help veterans was inspired from his familys long line of veterans. They hope that FERN will create a domino effect within the workforce, where businesses will consider and appreciate their drive, skills and determination to serve our nation. We will be working with area casinos, restaurants and other businesses to implement these new recruits into the community after about a year of training with us, OReilly said. The FERN Program plans to partner with local casinos and area businesses for job placement once a veteran has completed the FERN Program. Nestled against the backdrop of the serene waters of Lake Michigan and the awakening economy of Michigan City, Indiana Fiddlehead Restaurant opened its doors on Memorial day, May 25, 2015 and began serving comfort food that is anything but ordinary. But Fiddlehead is more than a restaurant; it is a community-minded training hub for veterans, serving fresh and locally sourced food and drink all under the passionate management of owner and operator Aaron OReilly, former Manager of Pikks Tavern in downtown Valparaiso, IN.
