The northern frontier of a mighty empire that once covered the known world. For around three centuries, Hadrians Wall was a vibrant, multi-cultured frontier sprawling almost 80 miles coast-to-coast. Built by a force of 15,000 men in under six years, its as astounding today for its sheer vision as it is for its engineering. Milecastles, barracks, ramparts and forts punctuate a diverse landscape that provides a dramatic backdrop. The Robin Hood Inn dates back to 1752 and is constructed with traditional stone, which legend suggests was borrowed from Hadrians Wall itself. Nowadays the Inn is a favourite with both locals and travellers alike, many of those walking the wall choosing to spend the night with us or pop in for refreshments en route, with the pub itself acting as an Official Stamping station for the official Hadrians Wall Walk!
