Luscious and balanced, with toasty oak and a long finish. Quinta de Vale de Pios Excomungado Douro, Portugal 2013 Touriga Nacional (25%), Touriga Franca (25%), Tinta Co (25%),Tinta Roriz (25%)Profile: Lush and intense fruit with robust tannin from stems, not oak. Provides a great example of the components each grape brings to the blend. Touriga Nacional- floral, blue fruit; Touriga Franca- black fruit,tannins; Tinta Cao- red fruit, juiciness, alcohol; Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo)-red fruit, acidity. Overall the wine starts with rich blue fruit on the nose along with lavender, sage, and violet. The palate is still juicy, but quite a bit drier than the nose lets on. Carignan 65%, Grenach 35%. Fresh and tannic in the mouth with herbal and ripe fruit aromas. Pairs well with lamb, beef and pork, as well as creamy fatty dishes. Full black cherry and raspberry fruit aromas with a beautiful balance and big, sumptuous and juicy mouth feel. Also presents complex spicy aromas, with a nice creamy texture derived from 10 months in French oak barrels. We ate there for the first time last evening. The owner Frank was very gracious and made it a point to talk to all of the guests, he made people feel welcome, the atmosphere was comfortable, Id say this is a casual place offering upscale dining options. We ate on the enclosed patio which was nice and toasty warm with propane heaters. They are following social distancing protocols. We actually sat at the bar which is now a socially distanced high top dining table. The menu had a nice variety of choices and most entrees were priced in the mid $20 range and included some PA Dutch foods uniqu
