Detailed Information

From 1977 – 1982, The Cull House operated in Blue Point and became enormously successful. On a typical summer weekend evening, this little restaurant with its tiny kitchen, 6 bar stools and 2 picnic tables would serve over 150 dinners. Guests would take their dinners to eat in their cars, sit on the bulkhead and even bring their own tables and chairs – basically, they would eat anywhere and everywhere! in 1983, the lease at Corey Beach was not renewed and The Cull House moved to its present location on Terry Street in Sayville. For the next two years, the restaurant operated seasonally without a liquor license. In 1986, The Cull House became a year-round, full time operation with full wine and liquor service. Paper plates are required because the restaurant is located on a dense bog and is adjacent to the Browns River, an environmentally sensitive area. The Suffolk County Health Department has determined that rather than have a machine dishwasher which dispenses large quantities of waste water, it is better to use single service utensils and plates. This is a major hurdle in operating a full-service restaurant as customers perceive paper plates as casual and not reflective of the quality of food and service that we offer. Therefore, it is up to each of us on The Cull House staff ot provide excellence in all other aspects of the business, including preparation and presentation of food, service, ambience and cleanliness of the building.
