Welcome to Jules Bistro! Styled in the way of a true French bistro like in the Marais or La Bastille sections of Paris, Bistro Jules brings a little bit of France in the East Village… A in the neighborhood for over a decade, Jules has soon become the reference for live jazz events, with a different band performing every night. An aficionado himself, the jazz influence comes from the owners early years of living in Harlem and frequenting the underground jazz scene for years. From the beautiful bar, originally from an old jazz joint in Harlem, the authentic french setting to the hearty traditional Parisian bistro food, Bistro Jules definitely offers the best of both worlds, one note at a time! Jules, Cafe Noir, and Le Singe Vert are all visions of owner Georges, a native Frenchman from the south of France. They are reflections of a childhood from a time when Georges father was in the army, always moving from place to place, from the south of France to Indochina, North Africa, Algeria, to Paris and back to the south of France. The owner lived there until he came to the United States in 1981. Jules is a Parisian style bistro, Cafe Noir reflects North African-Algerian cuisine, and Le Singe Vert is named after a restaurant in Senegal. Each, even though very different, exclude the feeling of casual dining and a laid back atmosphere. All three are beautifully decorated with antiques the owner has brought back from France and Morocco. Georges has been approached many times to do larger, full scale restaurants, however he prefers the simplicity, liveliness, and friendliness of the traditional French bistro. Everyone is welcome to enjoy great French food in a warm environment.
